‘Charming – Well Again’, 1804

Description

Mounted hand coloured etching, entitled ‘Charming – well again.’, designed by Rev. John Sneyd, etched by James Gillray and published by H. Humphrey in 1804.

After his many ordeals, the recovered patient sits happily behind a table laid with cooked fowl and eggs. He holds up a glass of wine, and both he and his liveried footman have broad smiles of satisfaction at the happy conclusion.

A study in facial expression, this caricature is from the series of caricatures comprising in addition; ‘Taking PHYSIC’, ‘Brisk – CATHARTIC’, ‘Gentle EMETIC’, and ‘Breathing a vein’.
