Glass jar containing specimens of coralline, a calcerous alga also known as sea moss. From the Burges Collection.
Text on paper labels reads ‘Catal. Mat. Med. p. 112. no. 20’ and ‘CORALLINA’.
Pomet, in his Compleat History of Druggs, says that in powder form ‘It is proper to kill Worms, suppress Vapours, provoke Womens Courses, and stop Fluxes of the Belly.’
