Description

Engraving entitled ‘John Bell’. John Bell (1774-1849) was the father of Jacob Bell, who was prominent in founding the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

This portrait was engraved by Henry Bryan Hall in 1849, after a drawing by Henry Perronet Briggs RA in 1833. Briggs was Jacob Bell’s cousin and would give him lessons in oil painting when Jacob was a child. Briggs later became a member of the Royal Academy in 1832.
