‘Le Remede De Mimi Veron, Apothicaire En Chef Du Constitutionnel’, 1850

From the series Actualities, no. 124. In ‘LE REMÈDE DE MIMI VERÓN, apothicaire en chef du Constitutionnel’ [translation: ‘The Remedy of Mimi Veron, Chief Apothecary of Le Constitutionnel’] Louis-Désiré Verón offers a woman personifying France a large clyster syringe labelled “Solution selon la formule presidence pour dix ans”.
‘France’ is shown reclining in a chair holding up a hand in resistance. Verón was a Doctor and the wealthy editor of the newspaper “Le Constitutionnel”, which supported Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte.
He suffered from a neck rash and is always shown in caricatures with an exaggerated collar and tie. The inscription beneath reads: “Prenez….prenez, il n’y a que cela qui puisse vous sauver!” [translation; “Take it…..take it, it is the only thing that can save you!”].
