This photograph shows a view of San Carlos cinchona plantation with the proprietor Señor Don Manuel Calderon, Bolivia, 20 December 1882. The photograph shows four men in the plantation at Coroico in the Yungas; an area which produced cinchona bark in Bolivia. The image provides a rare view of cinchona cultivation in South America in 1882. The plantation belonged to Manuel Calderon, a friend and correspondent of Charles Ledger.
