Pomet, in his Compleat History of Druggs, says that ‘The Fat or Suet is equal to the best Emollient. It lenifies and softens Callosities, Contractions, schirrous and cancerous Substances’, and Lemery adds that it is ’emollient, strengthening to the Nerves, and resolutive.’
