The Old Laboratory at 24 Russell Street 1900

Black and white photograph entitled ‘The Old Laboratory at 24 Russell Street’. Interior of the laboratory of W. Hooper and Co., circa 1900. Established in 1732, the business was taken over in 1757 by William Jones, an early chemist and druggist. The laboratory fittings had changed remarkably little since the 1700s. A large sixty gallon still appears in the centre of the photograph, and a large bell metal mortar can be seen on a stand to the right.
