Watercolour Painting of Vats of Fennings Mixture, c1955
Description
Mounted watercolour painting of the vats used for the manufacture of Fennings Mixture by John Sanger and Sons at Commerce Way, Lancing, Sussex.
Fennings Mixture was originally manufactured by Sutton and Sons at Brandon Road, Kings Cross, between c. 1850 – 1950. It contained nitric acid, peppermint, sanguis draconis and, until the early 1900s, tincture of opium and was used to treat fevers.
When the manufacturing process was transferred to Lancing, the vats were moved there. This painting was probably done by a member of staff at the Lancing factory around 1955.
